How to Properly Mess Up One’s Lines
Whether you love anime or hate it, you have to admit that the favored cartoon of Japan certainly has its own style. Anime is characterized by generally more adult themes than Western cartoons (even the ones targeted at children,) and mostly a far more serious mindset than a Western audience might be used to. However, if you look a little deeper, you can start to see the funny side.
In the English dubbed version of the popular anime FullMetal Alchemist, the DVD extras included a “blooper reel” that featured the voice actors, usually sounding so serious and purposeful, either goofing off in the booth or just plain messing up their lines. Not only are they hilarious even if you aren’t familiar with the show, but they also show that not everything about anime is dramatic fight sequences and over the top poses. (Does contain some “adult” language and assorted naughty words, so fair warning.)
