Meet Saturday Night Live’s (Hopefully) Future Host: Cookie Monster!
Those of us who grew up on Sesame Street know Cookie Monster as a diehard cookie fanatic bordering on glutton (though he prefers the term “cookie enthusiast”) and we greatly love him for it. But sometimes, a guy’s gotta branch out. And so, Cookie Monster felt that the logical next step in his career was to host Saturday Night Live. In pursuance of this goal, he released an audition tape to Youtube in an effort to rouse fan support on social media the way Betty White unwittingly did around the same time.
Incredibly, Cookie’s performance is probably better than a typical showing of SNL anyway, what with stirring segments like “Macarooner” or “Monster Gaga.” Cookie jokes are implied. Sadly, almost three years later, and Cookie Monster has yet to host SNL, although he did make an appearance in December 2010 to sing a Christmas song with Jeff Bridges (which is admittedly awesome in an of itself.)
